Buddy Aid is Sexual Assault first responder training taught in the style of (physical) First Aid. Buddy Aid is a victim focused training from a bystander prevention angle. The training makes the assumption everyone in the room is a good person who wants to know what to do if someone discloses a sexual assault, thus increasing the likelihood the material will be positively received. Several meta-analyses have supported the efficacy of bystander intervention training (Kettrey and Marx, 2019; Jouriles et al., 2018). However, Buddy Aid may be the first training of its kind to combine a bystander intervention modality with Psychological First Aid for sexual assault survivors. Additionally, Buddy Aid aims to reduce the stigma of sexual assault by using operational language, treating it just like any other threat or injury, which has applications that reach far outside the classroom.
