Join NAMI South Dakota for its annual educational conference for mental health professionals, families, individuals living with mental illness, advocates and friends.
In addition to 20 breakout sessions, they have three fantastic keynote speakers this year:
Dr. Elizabeth Ballard
Dr. Ballard is a clinical psychologist and Director of Psychology and Behavioral Research at the Experimental Therapeutics and Pathophysiology Branch at the National Institute of Mental Health. Her research focuses on the identification of warning signs for suicide risk and the development of new treatments for suicidal individuals.
Title of session: New Directions in Suicide Prevention
Thursday, 1 pm
Marya Hornbacher is an award-winning essayist, journalist, and the bestselling author of five books. Her previous books, which have been translated into more than 20 languages, are known for their honest, funny, sometimes dark, and always utterly real representation of mental illness. In her next book, which draws together more than 1000 interviews with recovering people and people in the mental health fields, she brings us a new story—not just a story of struggle, but a story of success, healing, and strength.
Title of session: A Map for the Mind: Charting Our Own Recovery Path
Friday, 2:30 pm
Motivational speaker Dennis Gillan is an ordinary guy with an extraordinary story of perseverance. His journey will motivate you and help reduce stigma surrounding mental illness as he tells his story of how suicide impacted his life.
