The My Journey is a teen pregnancy prevention curriculum grounded in Dakota and Lakota values that equips students with the information, skills, and confidence to make healthy decisions.
Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment has collaboratively updated the curriculum to include a stronger focus on the prevention of sexual violence and intimate partner violence among teens, as well as continued development and strengthening of the community-level intervention components.
The curriculum includes 28, 30-minute lessons with content that covers:
- Yesterday: personal and collective history
- Today: decisions you make now and the motivations for those decisions
- Tomorrow: our goals and dreams for the future
My Journey is funded through South Dakota Rape Education (RPE) program funding award to the South Dakota Department of Health from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and South Dakota Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) program funding awarded to the South Dakota Department of Health by the Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention.
