Susan Smith joined CPCM in September 2020. Susan received bachelors’ degrees in journalism and political science and a masters in communication with a journalism specialization from South Dakota State University. She worked for 13 years as the student media adviser for The Collegian newspaper and KSDJ radio station at SDSU. She taught several classes, including public relations principles, News Editing and Newsgathering as well as overseeing a staff of 20+ students, advising them on business, content creation, ad sales, management and design. Prior to working at SDSU Susan was the publications manager for the South Dakota Newspaper Association, which included designing association publications, writing press releases and stories for a statewide news service that operated during the South Dakota Legislature. She also worked as a reporter for three different newspapers, The Waseca County News in Waseca, Minnesota; The Capital Journal in Pierre, South Dakota, and the Columbus Telegram in Columbus, Nebraska.
At CPCM, Susan will be responsible for communications, design, social media management and overseeing sdcpcm.com.
Susan is a native of Alcester, SD. She has lived in Brookings, SD for the last 22 years but recently moved to Sioux Falls. Susan has a small dog named Otis.
